About
Valerie Williams
Valerie L. Williams is acclaimed writer, coach, and CEO at Lovesmart, Inc. Her life changed forever in 20 minutes on a February afternoon in 1996.
She came home to simply give her husband the family van to use for transportation. Twenty minutes later, she found herself at the end of a .38 Smith and Wesson with him threatening to kill himself and her. He would not allow Valerie to leave the home and punched her in the face when she tried to open the front door. Ms. Williams’ husband would go on to shoot her multiple times. The three bullets fired would find their way through her head and twice in her right arm. Her husband was never abusive before this event. Miraculously, this event only landed Ms. Williams in the hospital for three days, with no surgery and no stitches, having lost the use of her right arm for a year. More importantly, she was able to come out of this tragedy with triumph as she was still alive. For Valerie Williams, one time of domestic violence was too many. Immediately after leaving the hospital, she began divorce proceedings. She would also make a profound decision to tell her story and empower others! Today, her vision is trained squarely upon educating and empowering others who find themselves in harm’s way or, as important, creating opportunities to help women, avoid dating and domestic violence altogether. Her mission is also to bring awareness to faith-based organizations and community organizations in helping them prioritize efforts to prevent intimate partner violence. She inspires all to become Overcomers by living beyond what has happened to them.
